Tips for a Successful Virtual Career Fair
Before the Event
- Plan Your Time – make sure to check the list of employers so you can get a sense of who you are interested in speaking with.
- Prepare Your Space – for virtual career fairs, make sure your technology (phone or computer) are functioning properly. Test your webcam and headphones, ensure contact information for event hosts in case of issues, and ensure your space is well-lit, quiet and clean.
Day of the Event
- Dress For Success – even though it’s virtual, it’s still important to dress the part as you tour through the employer’s virtual booths. You only get one chance for a great first impression!
- Turn Off Your Phone – take full advantage of the virtual space.
- Be Present – remember to smile and keep eye contact (this means looking directly into the camera)
- Come Prepared – ensure you have your updated resume saved as a PDF on your computer or device, so you can easily share with employers during or after the event. Be prepared for potential on-the-spot interviews as well.
- Take Notes – collect contact information from the company to follow up and write down any questions you might have.
After the Event
- Follow Up – Call or email within 2 days to thank the employer for their time at the job fair and inquire about next steps.
Happy Job Hunting!
